“Strong girls grow into strong women who change the world.”
GEMS(Girls Empowered by Math and Science)- GEMS (Girls Empowered by Math and Science) is Girls Inc.’s signature annual event, aimed at inspiring middle school girls to explore the exciting world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Held at UW-Parkside, GEMS brings together 550 8th grade girls for a full day of exploration, learning, and empowerment in a collegiate setting.
Participants attend three hands-on workshops led by STEM professionals and educators, giving them a taste of real-world applications in science and technology. In addition to the workshops, girls are inspired by a keynote speaker—often a leader in STEM—who shares their journey and motivates the girls to pursue their passions. GEMS provides an unforgettable experience that encourages girls to envision a future where they can thrive in STEM fields.
